Rene Gruau was born in Italy in 1909 but later moved to Paris in 1924 beginning his career as a fashion illustrator. He worked with some of the biggest names in fashion journalism such as Marie-Claire, Harper's Bazaar, Elle and Vogue. He's also worked with some of the greatest haute couture houses of all time such as Dior (helping to create the iconic New Look), Balmain, Givenchy and Balenciaga. His images are timeless and quite a number feature women to convey the notion of the French way of life. He died in 2004 however his images will have a lasting effect on the fashion industry.
